New York will dance to the beat of merengue and bachata this Sunday when thousands descend on Sixth Ave. to mark the 27th annual National Dominican Day Parade.
Top Dominican artists such as the merengueros Sergio Vargas, Los Hermanos Rosario, Millie Quezada, Toño Rosario, Raúl Acosta from Oro Sólido and rapper Magic Juan will play along the route.
Fittingly, the parade is dedicated to Héctor (El Torito) Acosta, a singer who delves into both bachata and merengue, the DR's most popular musical genres.
"Through this great demonstration of force we let the world know that we are a community that has contributed to the economic, political, social and cultural development of this great nation," said parade president Nelson Peña.
The parade, which kicks off at noon, will cover Sixth Ave. from 36th to 59th Sts. in the red, blue and white of the Dominican flag. Bachata singer Luis Miguel Del Amargue will do his part from the Daily News float.
After the parade, the fiesta continues at the Dominican Festival at Amsterdam Ave. and 190th St., starting at 5 p.m.
